Classic New York Double Decker Bus Tour – New York City, New York

Seeing New York City on a Double Decker bus is truly a great way to get a feel for the city and where the different things you will want to back and visit for a longer period of time are located.  You will be able make notes on those places that really catch your attention and you think it will be fun to go back to.

Perhaps the Uptown Loop is the one you are interested in seeing.  This will take you past the Apollo Theater, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Upper West Side, Harlem, Central Park, Lincoln Center, Dakota Apartments, Museum mile and even more.

The Apollo Theater has quite a history, it’s "where the stars are born and legends are made" according to those in the industry.  If you want to read more about the Apollo Theater there is more information on another page of the site.

The Dakota apartments are a true slice of New York architectural history.  The building’s high gables and deep roofs with a profusion of dormers, terracotta spandrels and panels, niches, balconies and balustrades give it a North German Renaissance character, an echo of a Hanseatic town hall. Nevertheless, its layout and floor plan betray a strong influence of French architectural trends in housing design that had become known in New York in the 1870s.

If you choose the Brooklyn Loop you will go past the Botanic Garden, South Street Seaport, Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Museum, Fulton Mall, 5th & 7th Ave. boutiques, restaurants, shops and even more.  Here you will be able to decide if you want to come back and spend some time wandering through the shops and finding those treasures that you will be reminded are truly New York.

The Downtown Loop tour includes Times Square, Greenwich Village, Battery Park, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, the World Trade Center Site, Little Italy and a whole lot more of New York flavor and culture.

The Night Tour is available until late November with the Holiday Lights tour running from the day after Thanksgiving until early January.  On this tour you will see the Empire State Building, China Town, the Manhattan Bridge, SoHO and Rockefeller Center along with a wide array of other sites that stand out during the night in the city.

The South Street Seaport Museum will give you a trace of the history of the Port of New York, and its’ commercial and cultural impact on the city, state and nation.  There are galleries, exhibits and living history and educational programs for your enjoyment along with the largest privately owned collection of historic vessels (in tonnage) in the United States.  This tour is seasonal so check for dates.

The Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty Island ferry runs to Ellis Island and is currently fully open as is Liberty Island, although accesses to the interior of the Statue of Liberty Monument is restricted as a security measure.  The ferries leave from Battery Park in Manhattan and operates 7 days a week, from approximately 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
