Feel like a Kid Again at the FAO Schwarz Toy Store in New York City. Located at 767 Fifth Avenue in New York City, FAO Schwarz is one of the most famous toy stores in the world. Opened in 1870, FAO Schwarz is far more than simply a toy store, however. The sheer size of the store, along with all of the wonderful and extraordinary displays, make the store a tourist attraction that everyone who comes to the city, whether they have children or not, will want to visit.
The first thing that people will see upon entering the store is a 3-story clock tower that belts out a tune called "Welcome to our Wonderful World of Toys." Indeed, it is like stepping into another world.
On the first floor, visitors can see the veritable army of stuffed animals. Animals from around the world are represented, including lions, tigers, bears, and a massive giraffe. The American Museum of Natural History sponsors a large collection of the stuffed animals. Quite a few of the animals are on the endangered species list. Kids and adults will also want to visit the Puppet Park, where they can see a variety of puppets of all shapes and sizes.
Even the elevators in the store are whimsical and fun. The "robot" called Go-2-Floor-2 is actually an elevator!
You can find the board games on floor 2, and you can find just about every type of board game you can imagine. You can also see the giant Dance-On Piano from the Tom Hanks movie Big, and everything you could ever want from the Harry Potter universe at the Harry Potter Shop.
You can also find tons of Star Wars and Barbie, as well as a host of other wonderful surprises. The displays are as impressive as many museums.
