The Grand Central Terminal has more to Offer than just the Subway. The Grand Central Terminal, known also as Grand Central Station, opened in 1871. It has 44 platforms, which is more than any other railway station in the world. It houses 67 tracks separated onto two underground levels. On the upper level has 41 tracks, and the lower level has 26. A new portion of Grand Central will open soon, bringing the total number of platforms up to 48, and the total number of tracks to 75.

Besides simply being a place where people in New York go to catch the subway, the railroad station has become the ‘Heart of New York City’, with plenty of great things for visitors to see, tours to take, as well as places to eat and shop. In Vanderbilt Hall, visitors will often find exhibits ranging from arts and crafts to sports and more.

You can take group tours or you can tour the facility one your own. Plenty of great things await you in the station. The following are some of the things that you should see while at the station. You can even take pictures in the station, but you should note that using other equipment, such as a tripod is not allowed without being given prior permission.

You can start your self-guided walking tour in the Main Concourse, which is quite beautiful. The Sky Ceiling, painted a cerulean blue to look like a starry Mediterranean sky. The Beaux Arts Interior has vaulted ceilings and arched windows that are marvelous pieces of architecture. You will also want to make certain you see both of the Grand Staircases.

The Whispering Gallery is an interesting spot, and a place about which not everyone who comes to the city for the first time is aware. It is located on the way down to the Lower Level. A person can whisper into the corner of the wall, and a person on the other end of the gallery can clearly hear them. You should try it if you get the chance.

Many great things fill Grand Central Terminal, and you could spend an entire day exploring all its nooks and crannies. You will even find some great retail shops, gourmet dining and casual dining in the station. Don’t miss out on your trip to New York City.

Admission to the station is free, but if you want to take a guided tour, it will cost you $5 per person for groups over 10 people, and $50 for a group that has less than 10.
