new york helicopter tour.jpgNew York, New York Helicopter Tour - New York City, New York

There are certain ways to see New York that will provide a lasting memory for you and your family on your visit.  One of these is the outstanding helicopter tour that will take you over the cities 5 Boroughs giving you a birds eye view of the city.

The tour will being with flying over Governor’s Island.  The island was a military base for almost two centuries, home to both the US Army and Coast Guard. The island was closed by the military in 1996 and in 2003 the federal government sold most of the Island to the people of New York for $1.  The Island today consists of:
172 acres total
102 landfill acres added to original island from subway excavations
92-acre National Historic Landmark District and New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission Historic District on North Island
3 historic fortifications
52 landmarked buildings totaling 1.4 million square feet
80 acres of non-historic land south of Division Road
3 working ferry docks
More than 1,600 trees
Closest point on land to the face of the Statue of Liberty

The history of Governor’s Island is interesting for those that want to read up on it before flying over.  It will help you identify the different areas of the island.

On your flight you will fly north up the Hudson River you will get to see Wall Street.  This financial center of the world is certainly something you will want to remember and seeing it from a helicopter is far more interesting than trying to see it all from the ground.

How many of you have heard stories about your ancestors coming over by boat the United States and landing at Ellis Island to be processed in to the country.  On your flight you will fly over Ellis Island and see the Statue of Liberty is all of her glory.  It’s quite a site, one that you will treasure for years to come.

Then look over and see the Empire State Building, Chrysler, Woolworth, Met Life and other New York skyscrapers.  It will be a totally different experience than standing on the ground stretching your neck to see the top of these tall buildings.  You will see Fort Clinton, Central Park, the USS Intrepid, Yankee Stadium, St. John the Divine Cathedral, Columbia University, and downtown Manhattan.  You will fly back and be able to see the South Street Seaport as well as the Brooklyn Bridge, Verrazano Bridge and the George Washington Bridge in a manner you have never seen them before!
